An Evening of Elegance—Remembering the Past
Mount Zion Enrichment Center - 325 W. Fulton Street
Living Museum The highly anticipated festival begins with the Living Museum. The current generation brings our past to life and history is remembered through visual enactments of great moments. Over the years we have honored the Civil Rights Movement, Buffalo Soldiers, and African-American women whose work in mathematics for NASA was memorialized in the Academy Award nominated film “Hidden Figures.” Former President Barack Obama and his family were represented along with groundbreaking opera singer Leotyne Price and famous entertainers Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, and Patti LaBelle. South Carolina’s own Ron McNair, who grew up in Lake City and died in the Challenger explosion, was also celebrated, along with other African-American astronauts and scientists.
